We at the European Tennis Academy (ETA) have been successfully active in tennis training since 1995 – thanks to our unique teaching method, “Mental Match Play”. We currently operate tennis facilities in Austria, Switzerland, Italy, and Greece, all located in selected 4- to 5-star hotels. Our courses are designed for players of all ages and skill levels. Training is conducted using the proven Mental Match Play method, which combines playful learning with mental strength.
Our beginnings
In 1995, TEA (Tennis Academy) GmbH, based in Unterwasser (CH), as well as Tennis Academy Brand OG, based in Brand (AT), were registered in the commercial register. However, since these names were unsuitable as brand names, Kurt Wiederkehr and Joe Hauser agreed in the same year that the designation “European Tennis Academy” should represent their common external image. Further subsidiaries of TEA GmbH in Switzerland exist in Italy, Spain, and Cyprus.
Our history
As early as 1995, the business focus of the European Tennis Academy was determined to be the teaching of tennis, incorporating the latest findings in the mental domain. Within this framework, development work began on its own teaching method, which is called “Mental Match Play”. From 1995 onwards, the European Tennis Academy expanded with various partner hotels and tour operators in Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Greece, Cyprus, and Italy. From 1998, 12 tennis schools (franchisees) acquired the license for “Fit for Success – Tennis with Music”.
In 1999, Joe Hauser joined the firm as a managing partner. Mr Spießberger stepped down but remained as an advisor to the management until 2004. In 2022, Joe Hauser acquired Kurt Wiederkehr’s shares and has since led the European Tennis Academy as its sole managing director. Kurt Wiederkehr is now Managing Director and Coach at Mental Match Play Resources and actively supports the European Tennis Academy.
What makes us special
The European Tennis Academy distinguishes itself from competitors primarily through its MMP teaching method, which is a self-coaching training program directly on the tennis court. It is supported by a Mental Match Play App. The MMP program is available in German and English on the App Store and Google Play. As the only tennis school, ETA has integrated the mental aspect into daily lessons in such a natural and simple way. The Charly Principle (the voice in your head) creates a new relationship with the learning process and one’s own abilities, because this way, learning can truly be fun.
The European Tennis Academy offers consistent, high-quality teaching across all locations. For this purpose, in-house staff training, coach education, Mental Match Play internships, and a self-developed quality management system are used.
